I still have a nice bit of stock left from Christmas (the stock list below is current), but I’m hoping to get together a batch of pastel silks in time for Easter baskets. If you have any specific requests, send me an email at joyelyse@eachflowersname.net. I will try my best to make the silks in those colors. It would be nice if we could get a break in the weather here in Boston. If not, I will search out someplace inside to dye for Easter.
Here are the silks I dyed yesterday. They can be shipped today and may well get
there for Christmas. (I will ship
Priority mail insured. It all depends on
how the mail is running.) If you made a
color request and don’t see your preference, all I can say is that sometimes
these things surprise you. I mixed up
some nice pastels, but for some reason the darker colors mostly covered
them. I think you’ll find the result to
be different than we expected, but hopefully you’ll see the beauty in these
too.
It won't let me delete individual pictures, so I will just list the silks that have sold:
First row:Silk 1, Silk 2, Silk 3, Silk 4
Second row: Silk 6, Silk 8
Third row: Silk 11, Silk 15
Forth row: Silk 16, slightly damaged mandala
Plus two more. The second one is smaller than the others. It is 16 x 16 and would be perfect for a custom meti tai or a small playsilk.
Each silk is hand dyed for you by me, Joy Elyse Greenwald. It is one of a kind.
Here is a video of my daughter, Eleanor, with the first silk I ever dyed. It's her lovey and goes with her everywhere.
What is a playsilk?
It’s anything your child
wants it to be. It’s scarf to dance
with. It’s blankie or a lovey to
snuggle. It’s wrap or a sling to carry
their baby. It’s a cover for the best
peek-a-boo. It’s a curtain for a puppet
show. It’s a cape to tie around their
neck. It’s a crown for their head. The possibilities are limited only by your
child’s imagination.
Available silks:
Here is a photo of my available silks. The silks folded on the far end are “solids.” (Nothing I do is really solid. They are all mottled to a greater or lesser extent. "Solid" solids are all of one color.) E-mail me to reserve your silk and arrange for payment via paypal or money order.
note: There's been a run on my silks. All that remain currently are the green and yellow mandala in the top row and two solid reds.
I
will be doing another batch on Sunday, December 17. If you
have specific color requests, I would be happy to try to accommodate them. (I never know exactly how the colors will turn out.) However, each pattern is unique. I couldn't exactly repeat a pattern, even if I wanted
to. I just don’t know how!
Other silks:
These silks are gone (but still missed). This will give you a better idea of the types of silks that might be available in the future and for custom orders.
Prices:
Mandalas (those nifty ring patters): $15 each
Stripes & Multicolor: $12 each
Solids: $10 each
Plus shipping
About the silks:
Each
silk is a 35” square of genuine china silk.
They have been hand dyed with Fiber Reactive Procion Dye. Procion Dyes are non-toxic and yield colors
are that brilliant and permanent. They don't fade, even after repeated
washings.
Here they are drying after the last batch of dyeing
Care instructions:
The silk has been pre-washed, and the colors are fast. They will hold up to your child’s sucking, snot, etc. I would still recommend washing separately. I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT IF YOU WASH THE SILK WITH OTHER CLOTHES THAT IT WILL NOT RUN AND RUIN YOUR CLOTHES. The silk can be machine or hand washed in any temperature. I recommend hanging to dry. In a well ventilated area, your silk should dry in about an hour. Use a cool iron if you desire. This will make the silk feel softer and the colors appear more brilliant, but is certainly not necessary.
About me:
I am a (mostly) stay at home mom, with one daughter, Eleanor Morgan, and wife to my husband Ben. I started dyeing silks for Ella when I saw what was available and decided I that could do something more interesting. I really like the bright, saturated colors that are not available commercially or with Kool-Aid dyed silks. So, I taught myself to use fiber reactive dyes and make pretty patterns. When I’m not home with Ella, I home-school three children (very) part-time.
Note for the allergic:
Though I make every effort to keep all pet fur away from the silks, I have cats and dogs. If allergies are an issue for you, please wash the silk prior to use.
If
you have any questions, I can be reached at joyelyse@eachflowersname.net. I also
always love pictures, so feel free to email me a photo of your child and his or
her new silk!
Here are some photos of our friends enjoying our silks:
Enjoy!
